Is it an actual shelf? Is there some deeper meaning?
Yes, and yes.
My current book collection does, in fact, sit on little black bookshelves. I'm not sure there's much more to elaborate further on that aside from my idea to also create a special display of black shelves to serve as a backdrop to some of my book photos.
The deeper[ish] meaning of the title of my blog was a nod to my days at at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles where I earned my A.A.. Inspired by this fashion phase of mine, it was a play on the "little black dress": simple and versatile, the little black dress is usually considered an essential piece in every dress-wearing person's wardrobe. I envisioned my blog similarly - a simple, accessible, and versatile collection of book-related posts. Fun fact: almost my entire semi-formal dress collection is composed of little black dresses. Also, my husband wears black jeans with a black shirt 99% of the year. The other colors are usually only reserved for golf.
Over the year I had to churn over my thoughts on the blog, I realized that my desire to read and collect books was kind of like a black hole. I was an endless vortex consuming every book I found interesting. I don't expect that to change anytime soon, therefore I have found yet another [vague] meaning to associate with the title of my blog.
There you have it. It may not be the most profound part of my journey as a blogger, but just as I seek to find deeper meanings within the written works I read, it was important to me to share this particular deeper meaning.
Until next time, stay bookish,
Kim
