If you're reading this, it means you are getting a glimpse into the soft launch of this blog. When I created this blog around this time last year, I had intended for it to be a casual blog about the books I read and a place where I could get my bookish thoughts out without being in a book club. In other words, I wanted to have a book club minus the social interaction because I'm an introvert with a bit of social anxiety. Just kidding. Sort of. In all seriousness, I have always found my mind overflowing with thoughts while reading and really only one person to vent to (props to my amazing, bookish sister-in-law!). Also, I am a full-time student finishing up my last year of my undergrad as a 30-something year old mom, wife, and an actual adult (ha!). And did I mention I was also student teaching? Even if I wanted to be part of a book club, which I swear I did, time was very limited. Sadly, though, that also meant that my time to actually read and blog was also very limited.
I chose today to launch because on this day in 1892, J.R.R. Tolkien was born. The Hobbit happens to be my favorite book and Middle Earth was the very first fantasy world I found myself engrossed in as a child and into my teen years. I owe my love of books and reading to my dad, and the work of J.R.R. Tolkien is something we have connected over throughout my life. That paired with the start of a new year made it an appropriate time for me to launch this new phase of my life as a bookworm.
Now, after all the challenges I faced and lessons I learned in 2024, I think I'm in a place where I can successfully make space for reading and blogging. As a matter of fact, I'm considering them a part of my self-care for 2025. I look forward to sharing my bookish thoughts and hope that at least one person finds something meaningful in my little corner of the internet.
Until next time, stay bookish,
Kim
